MINUTES

General Membership Meeting

Friday, March 2nd, 2018—12:00 p.m.—East Dining Room

The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m.

WELCOME

Debbie Turano welcomes the membership.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

David Mussaw leads us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

MINUTES APPROVAL

D. Turano asks for the approval of the minutes.  Lavonné Plum motions to approve the minutes.  Toni Newman seconds.

INTRODUCTION OF NEW VP OF EMPLOYEE/EMPLOYER RELATIONS & SECRETARY

D. Turano introduces Brian Hayden as the new VP of Employee/Employer Relations.  Brian shares his history at ECC with the members, and informs them that they can reach out to him at anytime.

D. Turano explains that Miriam Jauregui has decided to step down due to work in her area.  D.T. then introduces Ricky Gonzalez as the new Secretary.  Ricky addresses the membership and lets them know that he will try to do his best in the position.

KAISER

D. Turano introduces Sunny Smith as the Kaiser Permanente representative and lets the membership know that she is available after the meeting.

WELLS FARGO

D. Turano introduces Dustin Riedel as the Wells Fargo representative.  He shares the great benefits that are available for full dues union members.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Diana Stanojevich presents the budget report and explains the line items.  She asks the members if there are any questions.  No questions are asked.  Motion to approve the budget comes from Roy Dietz, second by L. Plum.

GRIEVANCE  REPORT

Luukia Smith states that there are no grievances at the moment, but that we almost had one.  She explains that there was an issue with the new longevity pay scale.  The district wanted to start the pay the year after the employee’s anniversary.  A grievance was avoided.  Ngozi Akosia asks if you get a promotion, does your service date remain as your original start date or do they start over on your promotion date?  L. Smith explains that she would argue that it remains your original start date. Angie Gardea confirms this.

JANUS VS. AFSCME

L. Smith explains the Janus vs. AFSCME Supreme Court case.  She explains what a “right-to-work state” is.  The term sounds positive, but it is essentially a plan to defund unions.

TIMECLOCK PLUS

Angie Gardea explains to the membership about Timeclock.  It is a new system to keep track of the days and hours for student and part-time workers.  It will help by tracking this information.  Time clock will also keep track of classified employees’ leave requests.  It will soon be done online through this system.

SUBDIFF TO EXTENDED LEAVE

Angie Gardea explains that in November 2017, it was approved to rename sub-differential pay to “Extended Sick Leave.” We, classified employees, have to exhaust all leave (vacation, sick) before we dip into extended sick leave.

ECCE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

D. Turano reminds the members that we discussed the ECCE Classified Scholarship Committee, but no one reached out to her.  She encourages the members to reach out if they are interested in the scholarship selection process.
